Siliguri is a city in Darjeeling district of West
Bengal. Commercially it ranks next to Kolkata and in terms of population it is
the third largest city in the state. The city started its journey in 1835 with
the occupancy of Darjeeling by British and gradually it has developed into a
major trade center and serves as the commercial hub for the North Bengal. Siliguri
has been witnessing major developments in real estate, high street retail, and
hospitality and education sectors. Today the city takes pride in having some
grand housing projects, in showcasing almost all the top brands in the glitzy
shopping malls, in having some of the major food chains and express outlets,
the city will also be a destination for some of the prominent hotel chains and
new age schools and higher educational centers that are spreading their wings. Going
by the connectivity the city has its domestic airport located in Bagdogra, it
connects to most major cities in India and almost all the major carriers have
their flights and very recently efforts have been made to facilitate the night
landing of the flights. The rail communication is also praiseworthy with ample
trains to connect to Assam, Kolkata and Delhi and other important cities. The
intracity transportation is a bit ramshackled with huge congestion by rickshaw
pullers and fixed rate auto rickshaws though they are a great way in
discovering the city. The presence of two bus terminuses facilitates commuters
to connect to the entire North East and several parts of Bihar and Bengal with
the availability of many air conditioned sleeper bus services. Very recently
under JNNURM a number of improved buses will start plying
between important places within the city and this is keeping with the plan to
improve the transport infrastructure of the city. Staying in Siliguri is easy
with the presence of good number of budget hotels which offer decent
accommodation with proper dining facilities at cheap rates, visitors can also
look at the premium category hotels located in the outskirts. If you want to
